Bo Young Lee
Bo Young Lee 이보영 is a globally recognized Workplace and AI/Tech Ethics, DEI, and ESG executive and widely sought-after public speaker and leadership coach. Bo serves as CEO of AI4ALL, ensuring the next generation of AI leaders represents humanity. Prior to her role at AI4ALL, Bo served as President of Research & Advisory for AnitaB.org, the leading mission-driven organization advancing women and non-binary technologists. Bo also served as Uber Technologies’ first Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, where she was tasked with leading the total transformation of the company’s culture, values, and equity environment. Bo joined Uber in 2018 amidst an unprecedented internal and public DEI crisis and led the company to become a leader in the field. Uber has been named a best place to work for people with disabilities by the Disability Equality Index, a best place for LGBTQ employees by the Human Rights Campaign, is included in Bloomberg’s Gender Equality Index, and is a Gold Place winner of UN Women’s Womens Equality Principles (WEPs) Award. Uber was also named a Most Just Company 2022 by Just Capital. During her tenure, the number of underrepresented POC in leadership nearly tripled, and the number of women in leadership doubled.
Bo has helped hundreds of companies worldwide during her 24 years of DEI work. Before joining Uber, Bo was the first Global Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the Risk and Insurance Services businesses of Marsh McLennan. She also launched and led Aon Hewitt’s Global Emerging Workforce Solutions practice, the first DEI advisory service launched by a major consulting firm. Bo has also held diversity leadership roles at Ernst & Young, Working Mother Media, and National Grid. She served as Director of Advisory Services at Catalyst, the leading nonprofit organization focused on advancing women in business. She has helped clients achieve their diversity and inclusion goals as a consultant and thought leader. Past clients include award-winning companies such as Marriott International, Northern Trust, John Deere, Allstate, Booz & Company, Discover, Aon, Human Rights Campaign, and McKesson.
Bo’s knowledge of global DEI implications is unique among her peers. She has led DEI projects and spoken on the topic in the US, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and across Asia. She is a certified cross-cultural navigation and communications practitioner, having coached dozens of Fortune 50 C-suite executives. She has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, Bloomberg, and Business Insider, and has appeared as an on-air speaker for MSNBC, Bloomberg News, and CNN.
Bo is currently pursuing a Master of Studies in AI Ethics and Society at the University of Cambridge/Leverhulme Center for Future Intelligence (UK) and has an MBA with distinction from New York University’s Stern School of Business and a BBA magna cum laude from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. In addition to her role at Uber, she provides pro-bono guidance as a workplace ethics advisor to the League of American Orchestras, NYC Arts in Education Roundtable, and the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility. She has served on the Boards of Catalyst, AESC, and Korea University.
Bo lives in New York City with her partner John, her two children, Annabelle and Beatrice, and her two dogs, Betty and Mabel. Ask her about all things yoga, K-drama and K-pop.
